West East Biofuels have been established to take advantage of the revolution that is taking place after the Kyoto agreement to  “save the planet “.  One of the renewable energies being talked about is biofuels and under this sits biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a truly amazing type off alternative fuel which can power most diesel engines if not all.  The saying goes ” If it runs on diesel it will run on biodiesel".   Besides diesel vehicles, boats, generators, it can also be used in furnaces as a replacements fuel for oil.  Biodiesel is made primarily from vegetable oils (both new or used) and some from animal fats and fish oils.

To obtain good quality biodiesel, the vegetable oil/fat oil has to go through a transesterification process which basically removes the glycerine from the oil with the addition off methanol and a catalysts (most common used is sodium hydroxide).  The main product is biodiesel (known as methyl ester in the industry) and the by-product, glycerine which has many uses (soap/detergent/fuel for energy etc).

There are many ways to produce good quality biodiesel. Our method uses dry washing off the biodiesel with a special powder which absorbs impurities whilst the mixture is being filtered.  This is particularly appealing to environmental agencies. It is in the good mixing at the optimum temperature that has made us a favorite amongst the small/medium scale biodiesel producers.  With the price off fossil diesel rising there is more demand for this product and this contributes to part save the world from global warming through less carbon emissions.

Please note that no equipment can guarantee quality biodiesel according to any standard ( EN14214 and ASTM 6751) unless the ingredients are known and the process monitored carefully.  It’’s not the oven, it’’s the chef and the ingredients. The standards ASTM 6751 is based on soya and EN14214 on rapeseed.
