Attractions
15 minutes stroll down the street is Dataran Merdeka (or Merdeka Square). It is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It was here the Union flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight on August 31, 1957. Since then, Dataran Merdeka has been the usual venue for the annual Hari Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade).
Surrounding the square are many buildings of historical interest including the Royal Selangor Club Complex which is situated on one corner of the square, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the National History Museum and the Memorial Library, a building dating back to 1909, St. Mary's Anglican cathedral, a Gothic style building which is more than a hundred years old and the impressive modern Dayabumi Complex.
In the vicinity is Jalan Masjid India, Popularly called Little India, where colourful sights and exotic Indian goods like saris, brassware, jewellery line the streets, as wafts of herbs and spices permeate the air.
Getting There
Fastest way into the city from Kuala Lumpur International Airport is by the KLIA Express train taking only 28 minutes journey to the KL Sentral station. From there, PUTRA LRT line is available directly the nearest station to Palace Hotel, the Masjid Jamek Station. Alternatively, metered taxis and fixed-fare limousines can be used.
At the Masjid Jamek station, use the Masjid India exit. Less than 5 minutes walk through the covered pedestrian only bazaar towards Masjid India will lead you to Palace Hotel.
