History of the company
Ohara Florist has established since 1970s and has built a sound reputation in its products and services. The company name 'Ohara' comes from the famous Japanese Ikebana School where Mrs. Chew or better known as Honey Bee received her Master in Ohara Ryu Ikebana Floral Art. Ohara Florist provides various services in retailing such as worldwide flower delivery, fresh & artificial arrangement, bridal, funeral, gifts and accessories, antiques, painting and floral courses. We are a member of many International Organisations such as America Floral Society, Interflora and World Flower Council. We had also built a floral organisation called Ohara Floral Society which had received many recognition from the local community. Mrs. Chew or better known as Honey Bee Lim is a well known floral designer worldwide. She holds an AIFD title (American Institute of Floral Designers) and recently received a WFC (World Flower Council) Floral Nobel Prize in year 2001. In addition, she had contributed to many charity demonstration throughout Malaysia.

Courses Available

Japanese Ikebana Course

"Ikebana is not a mere decoration, it is an art. Ikebana is not for Japan alone, it is for the whole world."

Ohara School of Ikebana teaches you how to appreciate flowers in their most natural form. Arranging in a specially designed container, you will be trained to arrange flowers using formulas and methodologies that will guide you through the courses.

You will start from the fundamental - Basic Course and you could practice as high as being the Master of Ohara School. The certificate is honored by the headquarter of Ohara School in Japan and it is recognized in all School of Ohara - Ikebana worldwide. This enabled you to continue your study of Ikebana in any countries that has a recognized Ohara School Center.


European Design or Floristry Course

I. Basic Floristry Design Course

This is an elementary course designed for those without floral knowledge or skill. The emphasis of this course will be on the basic principles, traditional designs and practices of the designs.

This course is divided into five parts and they are Hand Bouquet, Floral Arrangement, Artificial Arrangement, Opening Arrangement, Condolences Arrangement, Wedding Arrangement & Car Deco. Therefore, it is also a fast track course for those who intend to start their own florist business.

II. Intermediate Design Course

The Intermediate Design course is designed to enhance the fundamental skills of the students. Students will be able to apply a combination of styles and techniques with varieties of flower combinations. The course is meant to provide the students with wider knowledge as well as in depth understanding of floral techniques and trends.

III. Professional Designer Course

This course is for those students who have completed Basic and Intermediate level. The course will covered more detail level of designs, concepts and application. Students will learn to express their feelings and knowledge through the presentation of flowers and decorative.



Hobby Course

European Hobby Course is designed for those students who are interested in European Design particularly in the area of floral arrangement and hand bouquet. Students will learn both commercial and non-commercial (designer's choice) styles of arrangement and hand bouquet.

Ikebana of Ohara School

Flower Materials for Ikebana are not included in the fee charged as shown below. However, the material fee generally ranged from RM5-RM10 for each lesson.

Practical Training Program

Selected students will have the opportunity to practice their knowledge and skill in a floral shop. Practical Training is available not only within Malaysia but also in several selected countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.

* Note: This program is ONLY on a case-by-case basis. Students will have to make arrangement with the instructor to qualify for this program.


Seminar, Exhibition & Workshop

Ohara School generally organizes several seminars & workshop conducted by our local designer as well as world-class international designers. Our goal is to have our students expose to various techniques, designs and in-trend news so that you are always up-to-date.

Current students will enjoy special rate to these seminars, exhibitions & workshop (if available).


Course Schedule

Currently, Ohara School's instructors only lecture on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 10a.m. to 6p.m For each of the courses described above, students will have to check with the administrator on time slot available on those days mentioned.

We would require a minimum of 3 students to start a new class so you may invite your friends, relatives or colleagues to join you if you wish to start your class immediately. Otherwise, we shall inform you when we have enough signed-up students to start a new class.


Course Payment Method

All fees must be paid to the administrator prior to each new class/course either in cash or check.


Replacement of Classes

There will be no replacement of classes unless the student informs the instructor or administrator at least one week in advance.

Ohara School will not have classes on the following public holidays:-

Agong's Birthday
Penang Governor's Birthday
Wesak Day
National Day
Christmas


Ohara School reserves the right to change the days of public holidays observed. This will be published by the school at least one month in advance.
