iel-edit.jpgAbout Lorna Whiston Study Centres

Mrs. Lorna Whiston's philosophy is to provide top quality language programmes where students are given the opportunity to learn English in a meaningful way. The aim is to develop the potential of each student and to promote self-confidence and competence in the use of the English language.

She founded the first Lorna Whiston Study Centre in 1980 in Singapore, where there are now two language centres, a Speech & Drama Centre as well as two bilingual kindergartens.

The first Malaysian study centre opened in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail in 1997, where there are over 1,000 students and the number continues to grow. A second centre, located in Taman Melawati, celebrated its Grand Opening on 15th October 2001. Lorna Whiston Study Centres provide fun and effective classes for children and young people aged 4 to 18 years.

The programmes on offer are:

• Intensive and weekly Language Development programmes for 4 to 6 year olds
• Language Extension programmes for primary school students
• Advanced Language programmes for secondary school students
• English as an Additional Language (EAL) programmes (formerly known as EFL)
• Speech & Drama classes
• Public Speaking classes for students aged 10 and above

Lorna Whiston is the ideal English language centre as we have:

• A unique, interactive teaching methodology that enables students to gain English language fluency as well as crucial life tools such as good communication and interpersonal skills, creativity and confidence.

• Highly qualified and experienced, graduate, native English speaking teachers who all practise
a nurturing and dedicated approach to teaching.

• Small friendly groups of no more than 12 students per class, so that each one benefits from expert personal attention and can develop at his own optimum pace.

• Extensive, up-to-date teaching resources that include libraries, which cater to students with various levels of reading ability and interests; computers, interactive whiteboards, suitable software and programmes on CDs, as well as educational games and toys.

• A distinguished track record of teaching English successfully to children and young people since 1980.

• A system where examinations are replaced with interactive tasks and activities that are more effective in motivating children and keeping them interested in learning.

• The time and expertise to keep parents updated on their child's progress, through phone calls, face-to-face interviews and teacher feedback on work submitted by a student.

• A cost effective fee structure that reflects the high quality of our English language teaching services.
