What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) ?

In simple terms,
It is the process of breathing 100% oxygen in a high pressured environment.

This type of medical treatment is more familiar to the diving community for treating decompression illness know as " the bends".

However, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is now more easily and commonly used. It is now not only used for treating decompression illness, but is internationally recognised for the treatment of other medical condition such as:
• problem wounds (diabetic patients)
• crush injuries
• radiation tissue damage
• infective conditions
• toxic gas poisoning
• thermal burns
• compromised skin grafts and flaps
• intracranial abscess

How does HBOT work ?

A typical session of HBOT involves the breathing of 100% oxygen via a mask or a hood inside the chamber at pressures ranging from 2.0 to 2.4 ATA for 90 minutes.

  • physically dissolving extra oxygen into the bloodstream and tissues
  • increasing the oxygen levels in compromised tissues
  • stimulating the formation of new vessels around non-healing wounds
  • immediate rection of swelling around the wound

What is this chamber in Penang like ?

This is the largest chamber in the Northern region of Malaysia and can fit 10 people.  It comes with an attached toilet and you also enjoy the luxury of having your personal DVD screen just like in an airplane.  The chamber is monitored by a trained in house doctor at all times.  During treatment, you will be accompanied by a trained personnel throughout the session.
